McLean and Great Falls residents who want to vote in the August 4 Republican primary have until July 24 to register, update their registration or request a mail-in ballot.
The primary covers two races in the 10th Congressional District: U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. Virginia uses an open primary system, meaning voters do not register by party and can vote in either party's primary regardless of affiliation.
What's on the ballot
U.S. Senate (Republican primary): Three candidates are competing for the nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner in November. They are Bert Mizusawa, a former Trump campaign adviser and senior CIA official; Kim Farington, a certified public accountant with a career in federal financial management; and David E. Williams, a Navy and Marine Corps veteran and former State Department and CIA official who lives in Reston, according to candidate profiles compiled by Charlottesville Tomorrow.
As of March, Mizusawa led the field in fundraising with $192,041 in receipts, followed by Farington at $125,579 and Williams at $50,556, according to Ballotpedia.
U.S. House, 10th District (Republican primary): Three candidates seek the Republican nomination to face Democratic Rep. Suhas Subramanyam in the general election: Dave T. Beckwith, Anthony L. Suttles and Julie Anna Perry, according to the Fairfax County sample ballot. Biographical details for the House candidates were not available from official county sources at publication.
There is no Democratic primary in the 10th District on August 4.

What to bring
Virginia requires a valid photo ID at the polls. Voters who forget their ID can sign an ID confirmation statement or cast a provisional ballot. To have a provisional ballot counted, voters must bring a copy of their ID to the local electoral board or sign a confirmation statement by noon on August 7.
