The Fairfax County Police Department's biggest recruit class to date started training at the Criminal Justice Academy this week, a milestone for the agency that patrols McLean and Great Falls through its McLean District Station.

Session 93, as the cohort is designated, began what FCPD described as months of intensive preparation for the demands of community policing. The department announced the record class Tuesday, Aug. 25, on its verified government X account, saying the department is growing.

FCPD did not disclose how many recruits are in Session 93 or when they are expected to graduate.

The most recent graduating class offers some context. Session 91 recruits started training in November 2025 and graduated in a June 2026 ceremony at Centreville Baptist Church, according to the Fairfax Times. That class produced 55 new officers across FCPD, the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office and the Herndon and Vienna police departments.

The record class follows a deliberate push to fill vacancies. FCPD launched a pre-academy program earlier this year aimed at boosting recruitment and increasing diversity, as WJLA reported in April, part of a broader response to staffing shortages hitting law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Chief Kevin Davis, who has led Virginia's largest police department since 2021, oversaw multiple command staff promotions in June as the agency expanded its leadership ranks alongside its recruiting pipeline.

FCPD serves nearly 1.3 million Fairfax County residents. The McLean District Station is the local point of contact for non-emergency concerns at 703-691-2131, and anyone interested in joining future academy classes can visit joinfcpd.org.
