McLean-based Hilton has hired Jeff Moore, a former Uber engineering executive, as its new chief technology officer.
Moore, who led a team of 2,500 engineers at Uber, will start Monday, Oct. 26, as executive vice president and CTO, Hilton announced on Tuesday, Oct. 6. He will report to Chris Nassetta, Hilton's president and CEO, and serve on the company's Executive Committee.
The appointment puts a veteran of Silicon Valley's biggest platforms at the helm of technology strategy for the hotel company headquartered at 7930 Jones Branch Drive. Hilton operates more than 9,400 properties and nearly 1.4 million rooms across 144 countries.
At Uber, Moore served as vice president of software engineering. He oversaw teams supporting Uber Eats, Uber for Business, advertising, and the company's applied artificial intelligence (AI) work. Before Uber, he held leadership roles at Amazon, where he was a founding leader of Fulfillment by Amazon and later ran engineering for Kindle, Fire TV, Fire Tablet and Echo/Alexa products. Earlier in his career, Moore worked at Anheuser-Busch in software engineering and operations. He holds three U.S. patents and sits on the board of Edmund Optics.
Nassetta said Moore will help the company accelerate its technology strategy.
"At a time of extraordinary change, Jeff Moore's deep technical expertise, operating experience and customer focus will help us move faster, harness AI and next-generation technology, and continue playing a leadership role in shaping the future of hospitality," Nassetta said in a statement.
Moore called the role "an extraordinary opportunity" and said he was drawn to Hilton's plans for AI and next-generation technology to reshape the guest experience.
Hilton said it is building AI-powered trip planning tools designed to connect the journey from search to stay. The company is also modernizing its technology platform to support new guest-facing features like personalized digital messaging.
Moore takes over the technology operation on Oct. 26 and will lead that buildout from Hilton's McLean headquarters.
