Jessica Wu has taken over as the McLean Community Center's Director of Marketing & Communications, succeeding Sabrina Anwah after a 25-year tenure.
Wu joined MCC in fall 2025, according to a TysonsToday profile published Oct. 5. Anwah's time at the center stretched from July 2000 to October 2025.
Wu brought existing community ties to the role. She had served on the McLean Revitalization Corporation board and played a key role in local playground fundraising before joining MCC. Days before starting the job, she was still active with the revitalization group, attending its Movie Under the Stars event at Franklin Sherman Elementary School on Oct. 3, 2025.
At Wu's introduction, the MCC Governing Board called her a significant asset to McLean, citing her community involvement. TysonsToday reported that staff were impressed within her first three days.
The transition was quick.
Wu now serves as MCC's primary media contact, handling announcements for the center's full slate of programming. That includes signature events like the Holiday Art & Crafts Festival, a juried indoor show featuring about 80 regional artisans that has been a December tradition for more than 40 years.
She works under Executive Director Betsy May-Salazar, a longtime McLean resident who previously served at the National Building Museum and the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. May-Salazar has said her goal is for MCC to be a warm, inclusive environment for all. The leadership team also includes Deputy Director Jonathan Melendez and Performing Arts Director Sarah Schallern Treff.
MCC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, commissioning two public art projects including a community-created mural on the rear wall of the Old Firehouse Center.
Wu's next big test comes Saturday. The McLean 5K Race, co-hosted by MCC and the McLean Community Foundation, starts at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 at McLean Square Shopping Center, 6631 Old Dominion Dr.
