McLean families looking for one last Saturday of summer fun before school starts can drop in to the Old Firehouse Center on Aug. 29 for a tailgate-themed party with games, food and a sensory room.
The OFC IGNITE Back to School Kickoff & Tailgate Party runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1440 Chain Bridge Road. No registration is required. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Activities include ping pong, board games, arcade games, refreshments and food. The center's Sensory Room will also be open.
OFC IGNITE is a monthly themed family play experience at the Old Firehouse Center, a program of the McLean Community Center. The center promoted the event on its X account Monday, Aug. 17, describing it as a tailgate-style kickoff to the school year with activities for the whole family.
The Old Firehouse Center primarily serves 5th through 9th graders in Fairfax County with after-school care, summer programs and Friday night activities, but the IGNITE series is open to all ages as a family drop-in experience. The facility, housed in McLean's former fire station at 1440 Chain Bridge Road, can hold up to 250 people for events, according to a Fairfax County profile of the center.
