A Herndon man who fled the country after striking a pedestrian in Reston more than 12 years ago is back in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, held without bond.
Fairfax County Police announced Monday that Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives arrested Enda Browne, 43, of Herndon in connection with a felony hit-and-run that left a woman with life-threatening injuries on Sunday, November 16, 2014.
What happened in 2014
At approximately 6:29 p.m. on November 16, 2014, officers responded to the intersection of Reston Parkway and Spectrum Center Drive for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, according to the FCPD press release. Detectives determined Browne was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion southbound on Reston Parkway when he hit an adult female pedestrian crossing the road at Spectrum Center, then fled the scene.
The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She survived.
Arrest, release, and flight
After the 2014 crash, police located Browne and the vehicle. He was arrested, charged with felony hit-and-run and released from the Adult Detention Center. Browne was due in court on Monday, June 8, 2015. He never appeared.
Police later learned he had fled the country.
Return to custody
On Friday, June 26, detectives were notified that the United States Marshals Service had Browne in custody at Dulles International Airport. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond. He is being charged with felony hit-and-run from the 2014 incident.
The FCPD press release does not specify where Browne had been living abroad or how the Marshals Service located him. A next court date has not been announced.
