Fairfax County Police found a 90-year-old Pimmit Hills woman safe on Sunday, Sept. 13, after issuing an endangered missing-person alert earlier that morning.

Genara Cruz was last seen at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the 2000 block of Leonard Road in Pimmit Hills, according to Fairfax County Police on X. The department classified Cruz as endangered due to mental or physical health concerns.

Police described Cruz as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black dress with pink and green flowers and pink tennis shoes.

The department posted the missing-person alert at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday. By that same morning, police confirmed in an update to the original thread that Cruz had been found and was safe. The search appeared to last only hours.

Police did not provide details on where Cruz was found, what led to her disappearance or what resources were used in the search. The department thanked the public for sharing the alert.

Cruz's case is one example of why police urge residents to call 911 immediately when an elderly or vulnerable person goes missing. Quick public awareness can speed a search, and the department asked the public to share the alert widely before the resolution came.
