Spring Hill Recreation Center in McLean is hiring daytime lifeguards, with $15-per-hour starting pay and free training for anyone at least 15 years old.

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) posted the openings as part of a countywide push to fill morning and midday pool shifts at nine recreation centers. Spring Hill is the only McLean-area facility on the list.

No prior lifeguard certification is required. The FCPA provides lifeguard certification, CPR and first aid training at no cost to candidates who meet the course's swimming prerequisites.

Those prerequisites: swim 100 yards continuously using the front crawl or breaststroke, retrieve a 10-pound dive brick from the deepest part of the pool and tread water without using hands for one minute.

Shifts across the program range from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Availability at Spring Hill depends on staffing needs, according to the FCPA posting. The agency noted an immediate need specifically at its Oakmont and Mount Vernon centers.

The positions also include free use of the recreation center where the lifeguard works and a path to advance to Lifeguard II and Head Lifeguard roles.

Applications are open on the FCPA jobs page.
