Fairfax County voters can cast ballots at 16 locations across the county after 13 additional early voting sites opened Thursday, Oct. 22.
Two of those sites sit squarely in the McLean Ledger's coverage area: Great Falls Library at 9830 Georgetown Pike and McLean Governmental Center at 1437 Balls Hill Road. Both are open through Saturday, Oct. 31, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.
The expansion gives voters 10 consecutive days of in-person early voting before the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election. Three sites had been open since Sept. 18: the Fairfax County Government Center, the Mount Vernon Governmental Center and the North County Governmental Center, according to the Fairfax Times.
Other new locations include Burke Centre Library, Centreville Regional Library, Franconia Governmental Center, Herndon Fortnightly Library and Jim Scott Community Center, according to a post by Fairfax County Government on X.
Fairfax County has 554,304 active registered voters as of Sept. 1, the Fairfax Times reported. Sean Stewart, communications division chief at the Fairfax County Office of Elections, told the Fairfax Times in early October that nearly 35,000 votes had already been cast, split between roughly 20,000 returned mail ballots and close to 15,000 in-person early votes.
"Typically, about half the voters vote on election day, and the other 50% about 30% vote early in person, and about 20% vote early by mail," Stewart said.
What's on the ballot
The Nov. 3 ballot carries races for one of Virginia's U.S. Senate seats, three Fairfax County congressional districts and two county bond referendums. Three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution will also appear, addressing reproductive rights, same-sex marriage and voting rights.
Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat who has said this will be his final run for reelection, faces Republican Bert Mizusawa. House races span the 8th, 10th and 11th congressional districts, with Democratic incumbents Don Beyer, Suhas Subramanyam and James Walkinshaw each facing Republican challengers, FFXnow reported in September.
County leaders are asking voters to approve a $180 million parks bond and a $75 million human services bond.
Specific hours for each early voting site are listed on the Fairfax County Office of Elections website. Early voting ends Oct. 31.
