A McLean man will spend five years and eight months in prison for fatally shooting another man during a May 2025 roadside confrontation in Herndon.
Kianmehr Shirinipaziziba, 20, was sentenced Sept. 26 in Fairfax County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 39-year-old Jason Hann, as WTOP first reported. The judge imposed a 10-year sentence and suspended all but five years and eight months.
The shooting happened May 23, 2025, near Elden Street and Jonquil Lane in Herndon. Shirinipaziziba was 18 at the time.
Police had been called to the area for a report of a disorderly man. Prosecutors said Hann was behaving erratically in the roadway and jumping in front of vehicles when he encountered Shirinipaziziba, who was driving a Tesla.
Witnesses testified that Hann kicked the Tesla before Shirinipaziziba shot him once in the chest from inside the vehicle, prosecutors said. Shirinipaziziba told officers that Hann appeared to be reaching for his waist before the shooting, according to court documents cited by FFXnow.
Hann died at a hospital.
Before officers arrived at the scene, Shirinipaziziba called police himself and reported the shooting. According to prosecutors, he remained at the scene and was arrested without incident, telling officers, "I shot him … we need to get him some help."
Shirinipaziziba was initially charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on May 18 as part of a plea agreement that led prosecutors to drop several weapons-related charges. Those included discharge of a firearm in public, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano said in a statement that the case represented a clear example of voluntary manslaughter. He said Shirinipaziziba chose violence when other responses could have prevented the outcome. Descano's office had asked the judge for the maximum possible sentence of 10 years, citing what it called a clear danger to public safety.
No statement from Shirinipaziziba's defense attorney was available in public records as of publication.
