Fairfax County police arrested a 19-year-old man Wednesday, Aug. 19, in connection with the killing of a woman found in the Difficult Run Park parking lot two days earlier.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau took Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos into custody, the department announced in an 8:18 a.m. post on X. Police did not immediately disclose what charges he faces or describe any relationship between Cedillos-Campos and the victim, 42-year-old Carmen Lizet Puch of Reston. Formal charges were expected to be announced later Wednesday.
Puch was discovered just before 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, by a jogger who spotted her lying in the parking lot in the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike, near Old Dominion Drive. Officers found her with upper-body trauma near her 2011 Honda Civic. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
By 10:30 that morning, detectives had classified the death as a homicide. Georgetown Pike was closed in both directions at Old Dominion Drive during the investigation.
"There's no immediate indication that this was a random act," Capt. Jason Chandler, commander of the department's public affairs bureau, told reporters at the scene on Aug. 17. "We're just asking the community, if they saw anything around 7 o'clock, to please reach out to us."
Fox 5 reporter Bob Barnard reported Wednesday that police continued to characterize the killing as not a random crime.
A motive has not been disclosed. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was pending to confirm the official cause and manner of death.
Police Chief Kevin Davis was scheduled to hold a news briefing at 1 p.m. Wednesday at public safety headquarters to provide additional case details, including potential charges against Cedillos-Campos.
