Surfside, the D.C.-born Tex-Mex taco chain, opens its first Virginia location Thursday, Oct. 22, at Chesterbrook Shopping Center in McLean.

The roughly 1,700-square-foot taco stand at 6218 Old Dominion Drive will open at 10:30 a.m., property owner Federal Realty confirmed to FFXnow, which first reported the opening. The spot sits next to the Sweetgreen that opened in December 2025.

Bo Blair, founder and CEO of Georgetown Events Hospitality Group, which owns Surfside, said in a statement that McLean and Arlington residents have become loyal customers of the company's D.C. restaurants over the years. Those include the Nantucket-themed Millie's Spring Valley and the sandwich-and-salad shop Jetties.

"Many neighbors have been stopping by over the last few days to welcome us and we can't wait to meet more of them starting on Thursday," Blair said.

The McLean outpost is a counter-service taco stand, not a full-service restaurant like Surfside's flagship in D.C.'s Tenleytown neighborhood. Surfside launched in 2008 with a storefront in D.C.'s Grover Park neighborhood.

The menu lists tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and rice and salad bowls. Nacho and fajita boxes serve up to 10 people. Kids' meals are available. The drink list includes regular and spicy margaritas, beer, Mexican sodas and a Montego Bay coconut-milk punch. Desserts include soft-serve ice cream, flan and tres leches cake.

Hours are 10:30 a.m. daily, with closing times of 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Surfside is the latest tenant in a dining lineup that has grown since Federal Realty completed an $8.5 million renovation of the shopping center in fall 2025. Mike Ennes, senior vice president of asset management for Federal Realty, said Surfside joins recent additions Sweetgreen and Sorn Thai, along with the Maryland-based steakhouse Glenwood's, which is expected to open at Chesterbrook in fall 2027.

Longstanding tenants like the family-owned Mylo's Grill and Chesterbrook Cleaners remain.

Federal Realty said a grand opening celebration is planned for November, though a date has not been set.
