Immanuel Presbyterian Church hosts Food Truck Friday on Friday, Oct. 16, to collect canned food donations for Share of McLean, the all-volunteer nonprofit serving local families.
The free event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 1125 Savile Lane. Three trucks will be on site: Masala Grill, The Corn Factory and Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck. Food is available for purchase.
The event also features live music, though organizers have not announced the performer. All ages are welcome.
The church is asking attendees to bring canned food items to donate to Share of McLean, according to a Patch calendar listing posted by neighbor Russ Carlton. Immanuel Presbyterian Church confirmed the details on Facebook and said the event is open to all ages.
Share of McLean has operated since 1969 as a 501(c)(3) with no paid staff and no government funding. Volunteers run every program.
Programs include a food and clothing pantry at McLean Baptist Church on Chain Bridge Road, furniture delivery, technology refurbishment and a community garden. The organization primarily serves residents in ZIP codes 22101, 22102, 22066 and the Pimmit section of 22043, with clients referred by Fairfax County social workers and other agencies, according to its volunteer profile.
A September 2026 Hunger Report by the Capital Area Food Bank and NORC at the University of Chicago found that 38% of households in the D.C. area experienced food insecurity in the past year, a five-year high. Capital Area Food Bank CEO Radha Muthiah told WTOP in a Sept. 16 report that "the food security of households across the DMV is deteriorating."
Share of McLean reports helping more than 3,500 family members and supporting more than 1,400 households, according to the organization's website. Volunteers log more than 1,200 hours each month.
Admission to Food Truck Friday is free. Residents who want to support Share of McLean beyond the canned food drive can find donation information at shareofmclean.org.
